Jehovah Tsidkenu
For those of you who do not read Hebrew Jehovah Tsidkenu means the Lord our Righteousness ( Jeremiah 23:6, 33:16).
Jehovah Tsidkenu
I once was a stranger to grace and to God,
I knew not my danger, and felt not my load;
Though friends spoke in rapture of Christ on the tree,
Jehovah Tsidkenu was nothing to me.
Like tears from the daughters of Zion that roll,
I wept when the waters went over His soul;
Yet thought not that my sins had nailed to the tree
Jehovah Tsidkenu—’twas nothing to me.
When free grace awoke me, by light from on high,
Then legal fears shook me, I trembled to die;
No refuge, no safety in self could I see—
Jehovah Tsidkenu my Saviour must be.
My terrors all vanished before the sweet name;
My guilty fears banished, with boldness I came
To drink at the fountain, life giving and free—
Jehovah Tsidkenu is all things to me.
Jehovah Tsidkenu
I once was a stranger to grace and to God,
I knew not my danger, and felt not my load;
Though friends spoke in rapture of Christ on the tree,
Jehovah Tsidkenu was nothing to me.
Like tears from the daughters of Zion that roll,
I wept when the waters went over His soul;
Yet thought not that my sins had nailed to the tree
Jehovah Tsidkenu—’twas nothing to me.
When free grace awoke me, by light from on high,
Then legal fears shook me, I trembled to die;
No refuge, no safety in self could I see—
Jehovah Tsidkenu my Saviour must be.
My terrors all vanished before the sweet name;
My guilty fears banished, with boldness I came
To drink at the fountain, life giving and free—
Jehovah Tsidkenu is all things to me.

wow! i love that! could you send me a copy of that?
sure, i will get your email address from timford. i am sure he has it. i don't want you to have to post yours in a comment. just for the record you can sing the text to the tune GORDON. you would probably know it better as My Jesus I love Thee.
why i posted this poem
1. i love the hebrew language, and i will use any excuse to sing it.
2. i thought it was an excellent look at the journey from reprobate to regenerate.
3. my favorite verse is the third one which talks about the awakening of free grace. it highlights the thought that apart from the quickening power of God's grace we would still be "strangers to grace and to God." we have to come to the point in salvation where we see no refuge or saftey in ourselves. Jehovah must be our Savior.
4. R.M. McCheyne is the man.
welcome your thoughts...
