Stained Glass Masquerade

I know that I posted this song before in a comment on timford's blog, but it continues to be very convicting. Let me give the disclaimer that I gave there: I have never actually heard this song. But the lyrics are so piercing. Sometimes we just need to step back and get real.

Is there anyone that fails
Is there anyone that falls
Am I the only one in church today feelin' so small

Cause when I take a look around
Everybody seems so strong
I know they'll soon discover
That I don't belong

So I tuck it all away, like everything's okay
If I make them all believe it, maybe I'll believe it too
So with a painted grin, I play the part again
So everyone will see me the way that I see them

Are we happy plastic people
Under shiny plastic steeples
With walls around our weakness
And smiles to hide our pain
But if the invitation's open
To every heart that has been broken
Maybe then we close the curtain
On our stained glass masquerade

Is there anyone who's been there
Are there any hands to raise
Am I the only one who's traded
In the altar for a stage

The performance is convincing
And we know every line by heart
Only when no one is watching
Can we really fall apart

But would it set me free
If I dared to let you see
The truth behind the person
That you imagine me to be

Would your arms be open
Or would you walk away
Would the love of Jesus
Be enough to make you stay

it is amazing to me how many people come into church, smile at the people, shake the pastor's hand, and go about "church" like nothing's wrong, but the entire time they are torn up on the inside and screaming out for help. this song has motivated me to get to know people in my church on such a deeper level than just, "Hi; How's it goin?" we must have a deeper relationship if we are going to help people.

Would your arms be open
Or would you walk away?
Would the love of Jesus
Be enough to make you stay?

it is scary to think that this is christianity today. this isn't just the lay people, this is the pastors and deacons and sunday school teachers. the people that are supposed to be guiding us. it is probably hard for alot of people around greenville or bj to understand what most evangelical churches are like, because they are so spoiled in the amount and quality of the churches.

i know so many people who feel just like this song is saying, yet because of "christian culture" they don't even think anything is wrong with it. it is hard to know how to minister to people like that.

something scary - usually stuff like this doesn't happen forever, God doesn't tolerate sin, of any type. if Christians continue down the road of mediocraty, then something is going to happen, ("the church is it's strongest when it's being persecuted" - vivere christus) and i repeat, scary
