From the Mouth of Bilbo

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

From
The Fellowship of the Ring, by J.R.R. Tolkien

This poem was recited by Bilbo Baggins at the council of Elrond after Boromir slighted Aragorn's rightful claim to the throne of Gondor. The son of the Steward (Lord Denathor) had been doubtful that the man before him (Aragorn) was Isildur's heir and the throne of Gondor. Feeling wronged for his friend, Bilbo used this poem to defend him. (adapted from

so far the bulk of my posts (except this one) have been rather theological in nature. this one is a bit lighter. i am pretty sure that the background info is correct. feel free to correct it.
