Nearer, Still Nearer

Nearer, still nearer, close to Thy heart,
Draw me, my Savior, so precious Thou art;
Fold me, O fold me close to Thy breast,
Shelter me safe in that haven of rest,
Shelter me safe in that haven of rest.

Nearer, still nearer, nothing I bring,
Nought as an offering to Jesus my King-
Only my sinful now contrite heart,
Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart,
Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart.

Nearer, still nearer, Lord, to be Thine;
Sin, with its follies, I gladly resign,
All of its pleasures, pomp and its pride;
Give me but Jesus, my Lord crucified,
Give me but Jesus, my Lord crucified.

Nearer, still nearer, while life shall last;
Till safe in glory my anchor is cast;
Through endless ages, ever to be,
Nearer, my Savior, still nearer to Thee,
Nearer, my Savior, still nearer to Thee.

I'm not totally sure why I posted this here, as of late this blog has been neglected, and I don't expect anyone to see it any time soon, but I'll try and say why I posted this.

This is my favorite hymn. It has been for several years now. For a while I was one of those indecisive "I don't have a favorite hymn" kinda peoples, which don't get me wrong, is perfectly OK but, I'm pretty sure it really locked in between 6th grade and the summer before 9th grade. I had always liked the hymn, but in 7th grade we did a tract project where we wrote our own tract. A major requirement was you must include 3 attributes of God. I chose omniscience, omnipotence, and transcendence. I did not go with the 3 catagorical attributes which would have had onmipresence instead of transcendence, so I could get a challenge out of it, who knows maybe I would learn something. I did. I learned that while God is so infinitly beyond our comprehension, there I would be incorrect with that definition because I used a term to define it. A word that describes almost all of God is Eternity. His love, His mercy, His grace, His power, His presence, His knowledge, all infinite. As humans we cannot fathom eternity, because our minds are finite, so, back on subject, even though God is so great and beyond our comprehension, He desires a relationship with us. He desires a realtionship, but sin has prevented this relationship, but God still desires it, although He hates sin, and sin must be paid for, He still wants to have a relationship with us. we have nothing to bring, but our sinful contrite hearts, but Jesus will cleanse them with his blood.
